Devote Yourself! Red Corsairs & Aeldari

Warhammer 40k’s golden age of piracy is almost upon us with the arrival of two battleforce boxes for Chaos Space Marines in the Lords of the Maelstrom and Eldritch Raiders for the Aeldari – starring some brand new miniatures!

Today we’ll be going over the contents of these amazing boxes and seeing what they look like in points.

Aeldari: Eldritch Raiders

The Eldritch Raiders move fast and hit hard – a staple tactic of the Aeldari. All ANHRATHE (elf pirate!) in the Corsair Coterie detachment gain the ability to take Enhancements as if they were characters, alongside gaining Void Thieves to keep objectives under their control even if they move away. If an enemy comes to take that objective, they’ll find a pleasant surprise in the form of D3 mortal wounds.

From the Boxes

Kharseth (95pts): Dread of the Deep Void, Waystave
Prince Yriel (95pts): Shuriken Pistol, The Eye of Wrath, The Spear of Twilight
10x Corsair Voidreavers (110pts)
5x Corsair Skyreavers (75pts)
5x Corsair Skyreavers (75pts)
Starfangs (75pts)

The Aeldari land at 525 points total from their battleforce – sitting a little lower than some of the others we have seen recently. However, it is still brimming with brand new miniatures (all excluding the Voidreavers!) and powerful Epic Heroes.

Prince Yriel leads the Corsair host from the front, wielding the deadly Spear of Twilight and granting his unit SUSTAINED HITS 1 and +1 to Hit. As is the new norm – he also grants the ability to redeploy up to three Aeldari units after deployment is completed. Very sneaky…

Kharseth is his second in command and resident psyker – they bring a powerful spell in the form of the Dread of the Deep Void, which also buffs friendly units shooting at the spell’s target.

The Eldritch Raiders battleforce is a great starting point for an Aeldari army, with a combat patrol or two you could be off to the battlefield in no time.

Chaos Space Marines: Lords of the Maelstrom

The Lords of the Maelstrom battleforce comes with a game changing unit and a very powerful detachment for Chaos Space Marines. They throw off the shackles of the Dark Pacts army rule that CSM get for a bastardized version of the Space Marine’s Oath of Moment. Along with that, for the small price of a Battleshock test, they can either advance and charge or fall back and shoot/charge.

From the Boxes

Red Corsairs Reave-captain (75pts): Power maul, Plasma pistol, Bolt pistol
5x Legionaries (90pts)
5x Legionaries (90pts)
5x Chaos Terminator Squad (180pts)
10x Red Corsairs Raiders (220pts)
10x Traitor Guardsmen Squad (70pts)

The Red Corsairs get a much more meaty box – landing at 725pts. Most of this cost comes in from the Reave-captain and the Raiders, but you are definitely getting your points worth in both of them.

The Red Corsairs Raiders come in with a staggering 3 wounds a piece, with two meltaguns, two power fists and a hand flamer in a unit of 10. They also get +1 to their OC after wiping out an enemy unit. Oh and they Infiltrate too, for good measure. Sure, the reaver’s blades and boltguns are just okay but Infiltrating 30 wounds on to an objective BEFORE turn one is a massive boon. But they get better…

The Reave-captain turns his unit of Raiders from a defensive unit to an offensive unit with the flick of a switch. When charging a unit on an objective marker, he can force a reroll if the charge is failed along with increasing the Raider’s weapon strength and AP by 1 with a successful charge. A truly deadly combination, fitting the galaxy’s most brutal pirates.
